The Purpose of this Program is to:

  • First and foremost, to teach you the core concept of bio individuality, which is that no one single way of eating or life choice is best for everyone.

  • Learn how to fuel your body in the best way for you—no prefabbed prescribed diets here. Paleo, vegan, gluten-free… the list goes on and on. You won’t pick a team — you’re going to pick the best elements of each and put them to work for you.

  • To teach you about superfoods, how to take advantage of them, and how to transform them from things you avoid to things you seek (i.e. how to trick yourself into liking things like spinach, kale, chia seeds and broccoli).

  • To teach you what supplements are completely necessary (and which ones aren’t), how they work in your body, and how to choose what is best for you so you’re not wasting money every month. Most people are severely deficient in the basic vitamins, minerals and antioxidants needed for optimum health — you’ll learn how to not be one of them.

  • To teach you which foods might be poisoning your efforts and that you should never, ever eat again. You may know & love some of these, but don’t trip. Knowledge in action equals power, and I’ll teach you strategies to crowd out sketchy faux food and replace it with real food that tastes even better.

  • To teach you the critical importance of your digestive health and how to properly work probiotics and digestive enzymes into your diet. All health begins in your gut. Your digestion affects every single system in your body. (Again, don’t trip.  We’ll get yours running like a well-oiled machine.)

  • To teach you how eating more can actually help you lose weight and how no amount of gym time will get you the body you want if you eat garbage.

  • Learn how your food affects the way your body ages.

  • To teach you easy strategies & tips for cooking at home so you can whip up kick-ass meals & snacks.

  • To teach you the healthiest foods to choose at restaurants and parties so you can stay on the wagon.

  • To teach you how to stay on track when you’re traveling.

  • To demystify “good vs. bad” fats, carbs and proteins.

  • To teach you how to save money at the grocery store and how to eat healthy without blowing your whole paycheck.

  • To teach you how to make simple, healthy substitutions that you’ll dig. Like compound interest, these small tweaks can add up to enormous results over time.

  • To give you recipes. Don’t be intimidated, preparing your own food is easier than you think. And tastes way better than fake food, too.

  • To paint you a very clear picture of the food-mood connection, and how our food choices affect how we feel, think and act. Every. Single. Day.

  • To teach you the concept of “Primary Food” (all the non-food stuff that influences our energy, cravings, and daily decisions around nutrition) –  Learn that how we feel greatly affects our food choices, and vice versa.

 

Graduates of this program, including me, are trained in over 100 dietary theories and lifestyle coaching techniques to help you discover exactly what will bring you success, and what is holding you back. It takes a year of training to become credentialed as a health coach through the institute. Health coaching focuses not only on the food you eat, but also your lifestyle. We help you to maximize the results of each. 

 

Have you ever been given a list of “eat this, not that?” Have you found that making drastic changes at once are unsustainable and don’t work for you long-term? Perhaps a friend of yours lost a bunch of weight on one particular diet, but when you tried it, the results were minimal at best? That’s where health coaches come in. We help you implement small changes, little by little, at a pace that’s comfortable for you so you can meet all your health goals. We work with you to help you discover your bio-individuality. There is something that will work for you – the trick is finding it.

health coaches take the time to listen to your concerns, help you discover where and why you are struggling, and help you navigate the world of contradictory nutritional advice to figure out exactly what works for your body. 

 

Everyone is unique and different. That’s why no one diet works for everyone, or only works for a small amount of time. Health coaches don’t promote one specific type of diet, or one specific way of eating. They help you experiment with finding what will work for you specifically, and how to change up your diet and lifestyle as you continue to grow and make strides forward. 

 

Doctors and nutritionists are also fantastic resources for you in terms of health and wellness. Many doctors are starting to partner with health coaches for their patients who are obese, diabetic or need to change their behaviors in order to improve their health and keep lifestyle-related illnesses at bay. 

 

Many health coaches also work in private practices. My practice, One9 Wellness, works one-on-one or in small groups of individuals who want to lose weight, increase energy and get healthy in the most efficient ways. You can even schedule a complimentary breakthrough session with One9 Wellness to discuss your objectives, struggles and plan of action. One of the best parts of most health coaching practices is that you can do all the mentoring from the comfort of your home via telephone or Skype. 

 

It’s also important to know what a health coach is not. A health coach is not a doctor. Health coaches don’t diagnose conditions, prescribe medications or recommend lower or higher doses of your current medications. Many health coaches are not personal trainers, so it’s important to know what certifications yours holds if he or she is recommending specific exercises for you.

 

A health coach is not a drill sergeant. We do not scream orders at you, or berate you for not meeting goal in a specified amount of time. We understand that life happens, and we work with you and support you in every way we can to achieve optimal wellness

 

Health coaches are at the forefront of today’s health revolution. At a time when one in five people will die of lifestyle-related disease, as well as when diabetes and obesity are at an all-time high, health coaches provide the nutritional and lifestyle guidance society desperately needs to find its way back to health.
